Message from the State Premier of North Rhine-Westphalia,

Armin Laschet,
to the ‘EuropaCat 2019’ congress, 18 September 2019, in Aachen

For North Rhine-Westphalia, a leading chemical and industrial centre in the heart of Europe, balancing economic prosperity and ecological sustainability is of the highest importance.  Catalysis is already making important contributions to numerous aspects of modern life.  And you, as experts in the field, know exactly how much potential catalysis has for the future.

Research excellence across the spectrum of catalysis has a long tradition in the scientific landscape of North Rhine-Westphalia.  The translation of findings to real-world applications has been a success story - and so has the close relationship with our neighbours, especially Belgium and the Netherlands.  With a view to exploring the enormous potential that is waiting to be released right here, in the middle of Europe, if we keep building bridges across the borders that used to separate us, I am pleased to invite you all to explore my hometown of Aachen, The St├Ądteregion Aachen, and the entire border triangle.

I wish all participants a good conference with compelling presentations and stimulating discussions.
