Welcome Address by Gerhard Ertl, Nobelprize Winner Chemistry 2007
Catalysis will be of decisive importance for the solution of some of the global problems concerning energy, climate, environment, food and health beyond any geographic or political borders. But borders are being crossed also within the discipline itself: It becomes more and more evident that similar principles are governing the reactivity of heterogeneous, homogeneous and enzymatic catalysts. Thus catalysis remains exciting both with respect to its fundamentals and applications. I wish all participants interesting and fruitful discussions and a pleasant stay in a city in the heart of Europe.
